When I grow up I want to open a salon up, what can I do now to prepare for this?

I want it to be a nice salon.

It would offer services including facials, massages, the hair stuff(to lazy to type all of the different things you can do to hair) manicures and pedicures and waxes. It would have a tanning bed and spray tanning booths to.

Im only 14 now what could I do right now to prepare for this? thnx. When I grow up I want to open a salon up, what can I do now to prepare for this?

Most states require you to get a cosmetologists license also.

and you have to study or go to school to get it.
Do well in school and work towards a major in business management. You could then work towards starting your own salon or maybe even starting your own chain of salons. small business is risky, but the people who take the most risks usually have the best outcome. good luck :)
Make sure you finish high school.
well when ppl open a shop up normally they are supposed to know how to do hair..

so heres what you do for now.

1. start practicing hairstyles on yourself, your friends .. you dog... ect..

get good at them and maybe you can start doing hair for your friends for school dances -- like me.

2. then when you turn sixteen, you can try to get a job at your local hair salon as a receptionist.. believe me you can't be a stylist just yet.

3. make sure you finish highschool.. then go to a beauty school-- tech maybe.

4. once you get that degree then you can go on to being a stylist.

5. one more suggestion before you open up a shop make sure to take some finance and buisness classes just so you know how to manage the buisness.. :D

at the tech also.. i think..

** one more thing.. i forgot to tell you..

its a good idea to take classes during highschool that involve buisness and finance so you have a background and a basic understanding of it by the time you go to college.

GOOD LUCK HUN!!

dream big!
you could look up stuff like how to make good massages, or learn cool hair or makeup stuff. try them out on ur friends, and do manicure and stuff.

the more you do it. the better you will be at it.

i know i would be all front of the line if my friend gave out free pedicures ; D
focus on your dream, realise you can do it, you can get familiar with the spa world and once you finish high school, go to college and take the courses that will get you what it takes to open one up, you can do it! take care : D
Many high schools have programs where you can take cosmotology for free and credits, ask when you get in HS. This class teaches about most aspects of the business. A few business classes in school would help, math, really good english classes are a must too. Communication is key with customers, the banks that lend money, and your employees, if you sound smart you have won half the battle of starting and mainting a good business. You might be able to find someones old book from cosmotology, there is so much book work etc, and if you master the areas now that are the book work class will go so much faster. I mean you have to learn all the bones in the body for some reason, they teach all kinds of weird things for some reason or another! Heres some links to ones I found ask mom to get one for you since they dont cost that much.
Look into a part time job in a salon. Being around people in the ';biz'; is the best way to figure out if its what you really want. Go ahead and put your self in that environment if you can. You may even find a mentor.

When I was younger I swept hair and answered phones in a salon for tips. (Some salons have people to shampoo hair too.)The pay wasn't too bad since there were 7 cosmetologist/ barbers in that shop and they all tipped pretty well.

Also, consider a business degree. In high school you can take college classes. Its called dual enrollment.

Go for it!
