I am going to a start a small, but really nice one-on-one type salon atmosphere?

I am going to open u a salon in the fall of 2008. I have an idea of how i want my salon to look and feel. I want to be able to give my clients one-one attention and provide services like free champagne, orderb tray, movies they can watch while getting their service done. I want to know if people will truly appreciate this or do people prefer the traditoinal get-them-in-and-out atmosphere that most of these asian salons offer.

Helpful suggestions appreciated.I am going to a start a small, but really nice one-on-one type salon atmosphere?
I think it's a great idea! Just add a licensed massage therapist and a tanning booth and call it a day spa. That way you will be able to charge more for the services you offer. At my local day spa I know they offer packages you can buy.. things like hair styling, 30 min massage, and a manicure for around $200. They are making a killing on the packages.I am going to a start a small, but really nice one-on-one type salon atmosphere?
I think this sounds like a high-end niche that could probably use fullfilment, depending on your demographic. The champagne thing you would have to be careful with, as a company without a liquor license can only dispense small amounts and I think theres laws that vary by state (or even town). I think a lot of where a person goes to get their hair has to do with how they're treated (of course only second to the quality of the hair cut or service provided). Sounds like if you can build a good solid business plan around this value proposition you may have a great idea on your hands. Dont forget to integrate all this extra fancy work into your profit margin, so you don't come off lossing money or being overly expensive!
When I go in for a hair cut, I want to be in and out. I have the money to afford the top of the line treatment, but I'm a busy a guy and the last thing I want is to spend my time at a salon when I could be using it for something else. I have my own TV, my own champagne. In fact, I'd probably feel nervous consuming any type of champagne at a salon, no matter how fancy the place appears. I also typicaly go on my lunch break, so I believe you will be limited to customers who either are retired, women who don't work, or the weekend and the last place I want to spend my time is in the salon on a weekend. These types of services are great when flying first class with an airline, because it makes the time go by so much faster. I have to be on the airplane for a set period of time no matter what. In a salon, all the extra nonsense is going to get in the way of the services I really want. If I had a choice of this, or a salon who is focused on the services I want, I'd take the latter. Even if the price was twice the amount of the salon that would give me a movie to watch.
the salon i worked at tried the champagne thing but found out they needed a liquor license to serve alcohol. So research that! it's a great idea!
A lot of people like to relax while getting these services done...I know I would LOVE to watch a film while getting my hair done. Some people on the other hand, are impatient and want to get in and out..so leave the decision totally up to them. Your idea sounds great though!! I wish you luck in your goals and hopefully, everything works out for you!!
I like a salon to be clean. I like the staff to be attentive and focused on me when they are working on my hair. I understand when the stylist has to leave me and answer the phone or help someone else but it is annoying. I understand when appointments run late. I appreciate when they can sometimes take me a few minutes early. It's nice to be offered a drink or a movie but it's not something that would draw me to a salon. I have been to salons with tvs. They can be distracting. I would suggest if you want to have one then to have it in the waiting area. Keep plenty of magazines and hair books around. I love that. Have a decent supply of hair care products and supplies for purchase.

What you are talking about may work in an affluent area with people that maybe don't work and have more time? It wouldn't work for someone busy like me. I want to get in and out as quickly as possible. I want to enjoy the process but I start to not enjoy it if it takes too much time due to interruptions (too many). Thankfully, that doesn't happen often.
