Alright guys, here's your chance to tell it all. I'm a hairdresser and regardless of whether I'm looking to work at salons or own one down the line I want to get the client's input on what you look for when choosing a salon.
What do you look for as far as services? Staff? How do you like the atmosphere to be? What are the main reasons you do go to a salon (including reasons such as relaxing, getting away from it all, ect)? What would you add to a salon to make your experience better? What would you take away? What kinds of special things do you like? (For example, my former instructor used to own a salon that put on photoshoots for their clients once a month) Do you like to watch some tv while waiting or do you prefer magazines or something else? Basically, what would you do to improve salons these days? Get creative. It's up to you, the clients, to judge the salon experience. We can only hope to meet your needs ^.~ Thanks in advance!

I like a salon that has comfy chairs, especially where they wash your hair, sometimes the chair is too low and my neck really hurts, or when they wash your hair they do it way too hard, and don't spend more time giving scalp massage, which I love, Also I like to read magazines, especially on hair styles, or even entertainment mags, I think I prefer to listen to music rather that watch T.V.(cos not everyone likes to watch the same thing) I also hate it when I say I want my hair cut this way and the hairdresser take too much off and doesn't seem to listen to what I say, I feel if they don't know how to cut that particular style I rather them tell me they don't think they know how to replciate it then go ahead and do what the heck they like, I've had many occations when this has happend because of that I only trim my hair or I'm very careful I say only cut this much then I look and say if want to cut more then I say another inch, I feel like I can't relax cos some salons don't seem to know what they are doing, so the way I would like it is to have hairdressers who will listen to exactly what the customer wants. I think the idea about putting pictures of clients is a great idea as this gives the customer a look at the work of the hairdresser and know Oh If I want that hair style I know the hairdresser can do it as the proof is in the wall.
Thanks for asking this q cos I think it is important for hair salons to give a great service especially if were paying big bucks. :)How would you improve your salon experience?
I do not believe in all the gimmick fluff..Its who is cutting your hair, that matters..Word of mouth is the best form of advertisement. If you have one bad hairdresser in the bunch,a bad name will be out soon enough. Just keep up with styles, and have good people, who knows how to use a pair of scissors...A good haircut is the foundation for all other services.
Well...tv is a nice plus, but I don't ultimately look for what kind of vibes the atmosphere gives me. The most important thing is how good the actual hair stylist is. Since hair appointments aren't free, the last reason I'd go to the salon is just to RELAX. If you don't own your own shop, then my suggestion to you is to either improve, or maintain your current skills and get to know your clients well. Do things in your ablility according to their specific needs and the atmosphere won't really matter (as long as it's clean, of course) lol :)
check out the reviews on citysearch.com for new york under alice hair - they serve champagne and they don't push products. I live in NY and the cut is the most important and the time it takes is the 2nd.
I get my hair done once a month. I like to relax get away from it all. I like it when the hair dreeser is friendly and the palce is sort of relaxed feel about it more made in the style of the owner rather than stereo type.
i like being able to get my nails done as well! some palces do it at the same time.
just fun relaxed places. individual look to it. i like to read mags
